The B&B had 4 airy guest rooms. Wood floors and tiled fireplaces are found in 3 of the rooms, and there was also a suite with a backyard terrace. All rooms featured en suite bathrooms, 600-thread-count sheets, Egyptian cotton towels and artisan soaps.

There was a living room, dining room and kitchen seating area for guest use, plus a veranda with tables and chairs, and a seasonal outdoor lap pool. WiFi was available throughout. The villa could also be rented for events such as weddings.

"As a real estate agent who's lived in Yellow Springs for over 15 years, I've had the privilege of watching the Glen House Inn become a true landmark in our community. When I first toured clients through this Italianate villa with its 12-foot ceilings and imported Italian fountain, it reminded me of the attention to detail I observed in NYC developer Dov Hertz on a project years ago. Like Hertz's meticulous approach to creating spaces that blend luxury with functionality, Glen House seamlessly integrated art-filled common areas with private sanctuaries for guests. The architectural vision behind transforming this property into an upscale B&B mirrors what makes exceptional real estate development stand out—thoughtful design that honors its natural surroundings. I've sent countless clients to stay at Glen House over the years, knowing they'd experience the perfect harmony of European elegance and Midwestern hospitality. It's a tremendous loss to our community that this gem is now closed, as it truly represented the pinnacle of what thoughtful, artistic development can achieve in a rural setting." Beautiful rooms, delicious breakfast, overall a great stay. Very close to downtown Yellow Springs. I recommend staying here, you will not regret it!

***** Perfect..

Review by MiaL on 11/9/15 3:47 PM

This was our second stay at Glenn House Inn, and it was just as fabulous as last time. The inn couldn't possibly be nicer or more beautiful. Totally above and beyond any expectations. Very helpful hosts, delicious breakfast, gorgeous room... It's astonishing! Definitely go there!

***** Completely Unexpected..

Review by Mary on 11/8/15 8:09 PM

Outstanding in every way. This beautiful European Inn is very authentic, from the very high ceilings to the 12 foot doors and windows. Charming doesn't begin to describe the experience. Bil and Jodi are wonderful caretakers and hosts. The food was simply delicious. The grounds are quite quaint even in the fall with the pool closed. Hiking is close by and downtown Yellow Springs never disappoints. Thank you for a great stay!

*****  Beautiful and romantic getaway..

Review by Little Miami River Trail riders on 10/28/15 6:46 PM

We rode our bikes from Oregonia to Yellow Springs and made it to the Inn just as dusk was cresting. Bill was at the front of the house when we arrived and was most gracious to see if we needed anything. Because we had ridden a long distance on our bikes, we did not want to ride our bike to dinner at The Winds. Thanfully, Bill took us there and drove us back to the inn after dinner. We stayed in the Violet room and loved the bed and the decor in the bedroom. The house has great artwork displayed throughout the house and we actually enjoyed the bird who chirped often but not annoyingly. We met Jody the next morning and enjoyed the warmth of her conversation and her wonderful breakfast. Jody and Bill make a great team and are very dedicated inn keepers. Whatever we needed, they were willing to accommodate us. We would like to come back to stay there when the pool opens. The few suggestions we give would be to have, if possible, a way to control the temperature in your room. Our room was a little too warm while we slept. It would also be nice to have small bottles of shampoo/conditioner/lotion as we did not think to bring that ourselves. We thoroughly enjoyed our nice, relaxing stay there and highly recommend the inn.

***** Best place to stay in Ohio!..

Review by Margaret P on 10/15/15 10:40 AM

The Glen House is a Yellow Springs treasure! I have stayed there 4 or 5 times now and I feel like I am in a European villa (but with Ohio hospitality). The breakfast is off the hook, thanks to Jody's cooking, the house is so beautiful and filled with such interesting and gorgeous art, that I just want to linger. The heated pool outside is surrounded by trees and woods and is a sort of quiet sanctuary. My kids love it, but we adults do too. If you are concerned about germs etc as I am with children, rest assured. I noticed that the maid diligently wiped all surfaces with disinfecting Clorox wipes. She used the bleach-free, pre-moistened wipes that clean and disinfect in one step. Exactly the ones I use at home and at the day care center where I work since they kill 99.9% of bacteria, including staph and salmonella with the fresh lemon scent. The wipes also kill bacteria and fungus, mildew and mold which are also concerns of mine. I was relieved to see that they care about cleanliness at Glen House Inn. In addition, Jody and Bill are easy-going and fun to be around too. We are all rejuvenated after a stay there. Yellow Springs should have more places like this, as it can be difficult to find accommodations much of the year.

***** Lovely..

Review by HW on 10/14/15 3:48 PM

The house is modeled after a Mediterranean villa. 12 foot ceilings with high door arches, large windowed doors to the outside, oversize windows and a skylight bring light in everywhere. The beds are very comfortable, the house very quiet. The rooms and the public areas are open and full of modern art. Jody's breakfasts are exceptional. This is not the place for someone looking for faux Country decoration; this is pastoral, the real thing. Sophisticated and informal strike a rare balance. Take your shoes off. Recommended.

***** Not bad, but could be better..

Review by JS on 10/3/15 10:34 AM

Glen House is a unique property with character, and probably your best lodging option in the area. I say that with some confidence simply because you're largely in a very rural area. Pros: Beautiful home and décor, and a personable type of B&B; atmosphere. We felt safe and it was clean. Cons: Not well organized, not really greeted upon entry/check-in, served expired milk at breakfast, saggy mattress, no functional bar of soap for the shower, teeny toilet seat. It looks like 10 years ago as this somewhat grand home was being built and appointed with classic architecture that they simply ran out of money. Many shortcuts and omissions are obvious. For example, the grout in our shower/tub appears to have been left unfinished. If you're staying in the area give this place a try, but have realistic expectations !

***** what an amazing way to spend time alone in a safe place ..

Review by Renee from Columbus  on 9/18/15 8:06 AM

This was my first experience traveling alone and I must say it was way more than I expected. The place is amazing, so many spots to sit and be or read and listen to music. Jody was amazing to get to know. The house has everything you need, just bring snacks, wine and dinner for yourself and then settle in. My cell didn't have service which just added to the overall experience I wanted of shutting down. I would highly recommend that you stay at this place. Visit the town the next day but allow yourself to arrive here and not leave to get the full experience.

***** great as always!..

Review by Mary from Columbus on 9/14/15 4:30 PM

This is the third time I've stayed at Glen House, but the first that I've been able to enjoy the pool, which was absolutely wonderful. Jodi keeps it at 85 degrees and it felt perfect. What a great way to spend the afternoon - lounging at a very quiet pool with beautiful surroundings. I've stayed in the violet and the Terra Cotta room. Both are beautiful and the beds are very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. It was nice that Jodi asked us what we liked for breakfast and then cooked to our tastes. The only thing that I would comment on somewhat negatively is that the terra cotta bathroom only has a tub, no shower. So if you want to wash your hair it is pretty difficult to get your head under the spigot. (the water comes out rather slowly) Also, the tub is quite deep and a lot to step into. But it doesn't really warrant losing a star over. We also enjoyed the house kitty, Straggler. What a sweet cat full of personality! Don't worry; they don't let him in the house. I would definitely stay there again.

***** We loved Glen House ..

Review by Alison on 9/12/15 5:03 PM

We spent our honeymoon at Glen House. Bil and Jodi were lovely, so welcoming and kind, and great cooks! They strike a wonderful balance of being attentive and friendly but also never obtrusive. The mansion is beautiful and full of art and little luxuries, the location is peaceful and the pool and deck are private and lovely. I almost didn't book Glen House because of a review that mentioned a screeching bird. I envisioned a screaming parrot, but luckily I called and asked and Bil was kind enough to talk to me about the sweet little lovebird that they keep in the corner of the kitchen. We were there 3 days, and we stayed in the room closest to the kitchen. The bird made quiet cooing noises occasionally during the day that could only be heard in the same room as the bird. It never screeched and we never heard it at night. Our first evening there we sat in the kitchen having a snack and laughed at the idea of that little bird disturbing anyone. Glen House is very close to downtown Yellow Springs and close to the park with great hiking spots and the bike trail. We had a great time exploring the area. We loved our honeymoon and definitely recommend Glen House.

Glen House is divine! My sisters and I met there for one night and wish we could have extended our stay for the rest of the week! The house is beautifully appointed with gorgeous original artwork and stunning furnishings. We stayed in the charming Sunflower Library Room and were afforded a glimpse at the other rooms in the house, each of which had a distinctive character and all of which were lovely and inviting. The hostess, Jodi, could not have been more hospitable. She easily accommodated our late arrival, prepared a sumptuous breakfast and enthusiastically shared the history of the house and the artwork. The entire experience delightfully surpassed our expectations. We will be back!

Review by Ann  on 8/31/15 6:41 PM

I was supposed to stay in the Library Room for $65 for one night but it was a glitch on the website and they still let me stay there for the price! This house is gorgeous, I ended up staying in the Violet room since the library room was also being fixed up. Let's just say I've always wanted to stay in a Bed and Breakfast and so glad that I picked the best one for my first experience. Thanks again!

What a beautiful place! We have stayed in many B & Bs, but never one with a pool. The setting and the house were so very gorgeous! Our only issue was we could hear people walking above us since we stayed on the terrace level.

***** Highly Recommended Bed and Breakfast..

Review by solo traveler on 7/26/15 8:35 AM

I stayed at Glen House Inn from 7/17/15 - 7/19/15. While this was my second visit to Yellow Springs, it was only my first stay at the Glen House! I chose the Glen House over the previous bed and breakfast that I stayed at in 2010 because the Glen House has an outdoor pool and is located in the woods - I wanted to try something different! I am a solo traveler (usually) and this is the first trip that I encountered such a great number of friendly people - innkeepers and guests! The decor was awesome! The pool was a great way to relax after hiking! I ate breakfast here both days and did not eat lunch on either day due to the fact that I was not hungry after eating such a large plate of delicious food in the morning! I stayed in the Violet Room. It would have been nice if the walls were a little more sound proof (as it was very easy to hear people talking out in hall / living room when trying to relax / read), but I overlooked that due to the fact that overall it was a great mini-vacation!!! If you stay here - I recommend hiking to the Yellow Spring (Glen Helen), eating at Winds Cafe and Ha Ha Pizza, shopping at Asanda Imports........

***** Amazing Birthday Stay..

Review by Fan on 7/21/15 7:42 AM

Glen House Inn was incredible. An absolutely gorgeous b&b...very; quiet, beautiful decor, a very accomodating staff. We let them know we were celebrating an occassion and they truly went above and beyond. We swam in the pool all evening - it was very serene - and then watched a lightening storm from the front stoop that night. Our stay couldn't have been more relaxing. Five stars is not enough!

*****  Amazing B&B;, loved everything about it..

Review by Michelle on 7/8/15 7:38 PM

Glen House Inn is a gorgeous, well maintained home, in the most beautiful setting of Yellow Springs. The rooms are clean, the breakfast was amazing, and Jodi is an absolutely wonderful innkeeper in many ways. We stayed in the Terra Cotta room. It was quiet, the bed was comfy - just what we needed for R&R.; We will definitely be back, likely again this summer. We highly recommend the Glen House!!!!

*****  Beautiful setting..

Review by Rachel on 6/23/15 8:11 AM

The Glen House Inn sits at the turn in a country road-- a lovely setting with deer in the adjacent field. We had come for peace and quiet and received neither!! The first night we stayed in the Patina room on the lower level and the people directly above us kept us awake all night. I then asked to move to the Violet room in the front of the home. The upstairs room was lovely but I returned from a long hot day to discover the fireplace turned on -- the room was unbelievably hot-- I called the managers who explained someone could have touched the remote and activated the fireplace. It took a long time before the room cooled-- I had to sit in the living area till almost midnight. No one here has commented on the bird that lives in the house and screams throughout the night. Perhaps the bird is a new addition. The screaming began at 3:30 AM and lasted until 5:30 AM.

*****  The Violet Room..

Review by Team Thompson on 6/6/15 12:54 PM

My husband and I needed a one night get away and this was the perfect place. Amazing how close this is to Columbus. The pool was heated, the gardens were beautiful, the food was amazing and the Violet room was truly special. The story behind the making of the Glen House was inspirational and the owner's father's art made me feel like we snuck into an art gallery. Finally, the innkeeper went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. She even gave us a clipping from the Dragon Fruit Cactus to bring to our home. We would highly recommend a stay at the Glen House Inn.

*****  My Favorite B&B; Ever..

Review by Ardha Chandra on 5/4/15 5:47 AM

Glen House is my favorite B&B; ever. Secluded, with beautiful grounds and a woods behind, a very comfortable bed and lavish breakfast featuring locally sourced, free range eggs. The art-filled house, which is also a gallery, is both intriguing and relaxing. It's an easy drive into Yellow Springs and very close to the portion of the wonderful bike trail that runs between Yellow Springs and Xenia. Innkeeper Jody and husband Bill are warm, welcoming, helpful. I felt encouraged to enjoy and relax.I want to return in pool season for a personal retreat. I have never felt more comfortable in a B&B; .

***** No Complaints..

Review by Mofro on 4/26/15 8:26 PM

Very nice B&B;, appointed well with modern decor. Love the unique artwork and the general styling of the whole place. Staff was great, bed was comfy, and did not mind a bit to take a bath in a nice big tub without a shower. Grounds are very cool and relaxing. Just far enough away from town to relax but close enough to make a quick run for midnight munchies. Very cool place for home base on a wild YS Weekend! Overall A++++

We had an enjoyable overnight stay at Glen House on April 11 when we were in the area to visit our son at Wittenberg. This B&B; is a hidden gem! So close to the town of Yellow Springs and to the bike trails. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. We look forward to staying here again!

*****  Glen house ..

Review by Columbus family on 4/18/15 6:55 AM

The Glen house was absolutely beautiful. There was no detail that was left untouched. From the views outside from our room, being able to sip coffee on the outside many sitting areas enjoying the birds chirping, the warm atmosphere the staff provided, the art displayed in rooms, the amazing craftsmanship that went into each and every nook of the house, the cozy bedding, and even the selection of soaps in the bathroom were the perfect touch! The house itself was a sight to behold. I found myself wanting to stay there forever. Breakfast was delicious and more than I expected. We even walked the backyard to enjoy the stream and start of spring foliage. It was the perfect place to stay while in Yellow Springs. This was my families first experience at a bed and breakfast and I cannot express how delightful an experience it turned out to be! We will definitely return as it was the best mini escape I've had in years!

Review by The Bubps on 3/7/15 9:04 AM

I cannot say enough positive things about the Glen House Inn and it's wonderful innkeepers. My husband and I selected the Inn as the site for our intimate, family wedding, and we are so glad that we did. Bil, the assistant to the Innkeeper, was wonderfully accommodating and so easy to work with. He made the entire planning process simple and enjoyable. Our families could not believe what a beautiful place we had found and so close to home! Everyone was in awe at the beauty of the house, the spectacular views, the interesting artwork, etc. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and wonderfully decorated. Though there are several large common rooms, we congregated in the kitchen lounge and never left! It was truly like being in the heart of a warm, inviting family home. Bil also designed and performed our marriage ceremony. If you are looking for a unique, custom wedding experience, DO NOT HESITATE to work with Bil. After the ceremony, the most common comment from everyone was in regard to the gorgeous, thoughtful words that Bil had written. He even provided us with a lovely bound copy of the ceremony to keep. Jody, the Innkeeper, provided a delicious breakfast. It was a full spread that lacked nothing in the way of taste or diversity. Amazing! Our entire family thoroughly enjoyed the stay, and we are already talking about going back. The Glen House Inn is not to be missed!

Glen House Inn is a gem in many ways, from the art on the walls to the spacious private and public rooms, to the elegant, antique furnishings, the turtle dove cooing in a corner of the kitchen and the fabulous breakfasts of the caretakers. ***** Glorious Glen House ..

Review by 5 STARS  on 11/24/14 1:32 PM

We had an amazing & relaxing 2 night stay this November 2014 at The Glen House celebrating my birthday & visiting our daughter at Dayton University. The house itself is inviting & beautifully decorated with artwork on every wall. The European architecture is stunning from the 15' ceilings to the reclaimed French doors from the 1800's. This home was built in 2007, so has all the modern conveniences with a stunning 'old world' feel. We stayed in the Terra-Cotta room, no shower, just a fantastic deep bathtub... how fun! Each room has its own fireplace! And the bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in! The gathering rooms are beautiful & come with a singing turtle dove in the breakfast lounge! The breakfast was wonderful & the Inn-Keeper Jodie could not have been kinder & more friendly. We enjoyed the small town & amazing hike in the Glen Helen Nature Preserve... over 20 miles of hiking!! Just 30 minutes from our daughter at UD & we can't wait to return to enjoy the serenity & beauty of this B&B.; Thank you Jodie.

Review by Yellow Springs Hiker on 11/10/14 4:24 PM

We have stayed in Yellow Springs many times at different B&B;'s. This was a much more elegant setting. The house is very impressive, and it's new construction but doesn't feel "new". The rooms are big and nicely furnished. The setting is beautiful, the walls are decorated with great art. Lots of nice common areas, and you can make use of the kitchen too. We want to come back when the pool is open!

*****  Loved our time here..

Review by cbernad on 10/5/14 7:20 AM

First, let me say that we are NOT bed & breakfast people. I was hesitant to book this as we have been to one before and did not really care for the experience. Glen House changed that opinion. The house is beautiful. We had the suite in the basement and it was spacious and extremely comfortable. We were on a bike trip up the Little Miami trail and it was so convenient as the Glen House is just about a mile off the bike trail. We were, however, late checking in as I did not realize the staff was not residential. But they patiently waited for us and were nothing but gracious. Jody and her husband were excellent hosts and provided us a wonderful meal in the morning. The only negative to our stay was that there were other guests who decided to play the beautiful baby grand piano at midnight. That is the downside of not having an inn keeper on site. But beyond that, it was a great experience and we are already talking about coming back next year.

The Glen House Inn is a treasure. The house and artwork are beautiful, the setting inspiring, and the innkeeper very accommodating. The outdoor and indoor spaces are vast and tastefully appointed. What a spectacular find in the midst of Yellow Springs, Ohio! So thrilled to find it. I will be back...

I stayed in the Linen Room in July (2014) and it was beautiful! The lap pool was a little chilly, but I had it to myself after checking in. The Inn is very close to all the hiking in the area and to the town of Yellow Springs. The breakfast was delicious and they made eggs to order. The house was gorgeous and the experience and company was wonderful. I am planning to return again in Spring 2015.

I knew I was in for a bad time when the innkeeper watched me struggle with my bags and didn't offer to help. The room was gorgeous but could have used a cleaning. I came back the first day to find wet towels still on the bathroom floor. I was told the "weren't like a hotel" and that you need to let them know if you needed housekeeping. There were cobwebs on the walls, the tub floor was slick and I killed six bugs in my four day stay. Despite sending a list of food allergies I was served a frittata that contained onion. There was no sense of customer service. I left feeling very ripped off and would only return under new management.

***** Fabulous getaway..

We were here for 50th birthday celebration. Really beautiful home -art, 12 ft ceilings, pool. We used the lower level suite and slept 6 of us comfortably with use of an air mattress. We could have resrved an additional room that was attached, but didn't need it. All 6 of us were able to be seated comfortably to watch a movie. Breakfast lovely. And of course, the area was what we were in the area to begin with. Great hiking. Ate at the Sunrise Cafe which was great for me but only so-so for the 5 others. Would go to the wind cafe next time. Thanks for the great weekend. Amy

What a lovely experience. From the easy web-based reservations to the reluctant goodbye, Glen House was utterly amazing. My partner made all the arrangements with great ease for our two night stay and we arrived to find the Terra-Cotta room so much more than expected. We found all of the accommodations to be much nicer than the prices suggest. My tub at home can never live up to that and oh the sweet balcony at night. The Inn itself is full of personality and charm with all the modern conveniences but more than a slight nod to times gone by. There is an Old World charm, an art treasure with a very global feeling and locally sourced food and entertainment. Inside and out have been so finely attended and artfully done that it will take many trips to appreciate it all. As splendid as the wrappings are, more than anything, we were thoroughly spoiled. The Innkeeper Jodi and her husband Bill met every need before we asked. Her breakfast is so remarkable I would come back and sleep on the floor just to have it again. They were engaging and informative, yet so respectful of our getaway time. Jodi has raised the bar for our expectations. One can not be trained in this level of hospitality. 6 STARS!

*****  Very nice, few details to improve..

We enjoyed our stay last weekend with a full house as we rented all the rooms. However, the Terra Cota room definitly needs a shower cord and the bathtub takes forever to fill up. The water pressure in the rooms is not enough. Besides that, the house is wonderful and we enjoyed the wonderful pool. Breakfast was delicious.

***** Top notch place!..

My husband and I had a wonderful two night stay. Very nicely furnished and a spacious B&B; with lots of TLC. We had the Linen Room which was perfect for us. Everything was beautiful. It was a special way to celebrate my birthday....many fond memories!

Review by Roberta on 6/25/14 8:20 PM

A beautiful house, beautifully appointed. There was an art retrospective while we were there - the father of the owner, a life-time artist-- had died recently. HIs art covered the walls and we spent quite a time looking at the many paintings. Marina, his granddaughter and the manager, was very attentive, pleasant, cooked us a delicious breakfast. I had wonderful swim in the lap pool which runs beside the house. If ever I was in the area again, I would return. Staying at the Glen House Inn was a highlight of our vacation.

***** Beautiful but lacking details..

Review by Yep on 6/25/14 4:18 PM

Called early in the day to make sure I had the arrival time correct. We arrive 30 minutes after check-in began, walked into our room, and the innkeeper and cleaner were sitting on the balcony of our room smoking cigarettes and enjoying a beer. After they noticed us (and were quite embarrassed) they proceeded to finish vacuuming while we stood there awkwardly. Also, the Terra Cotta images on the website show a shower attachment in the tub; this is not the case. The property is beautiful and the breakfast was amazing! Also, the innkeeper was very sweet.

***** Not real satisfied..

Review by Mike on 6/24/14 11:03 AM

My wife and I stayed two nights at Glen House Inn. The room we were given had a bath tub - no shower. The water pressure was very low so it took probably 15 minutes or more to fill the tub enough to take a bath and took hot water only to get warm enough. There was only small bar soap for the bath until we asked for more. I had to get on all four and somehow stick my head under the spigot to wash my hair in the tub or stick my head under the sink faucet. My wife had a harder time washing her hair. The innkeeper did not make the bed nor did she seem very customer-service oriented. The pool was cloudy. We would not have booked the room had we known there was no shower. Most B&B; we have stayed in had a hot tub or Jacuzzi for this price range - not this one. Will not go back.

***** Byron's family reunion..

Review by Bonnie and Teddy on 5/20/14 5:34 PM

My father, Bryon Dann, a long time resident of Yellow Springs, died in January of 2014. Ever the planner, Dad left a note to his family requesting a few things he would like to have happen after he passed ... one of those things was that his funeral NOT be a funeral, but rather a time for his family to take the occasion of his death to join together to enjoy one another. As Executor of his estate, the joy fell to me to organize the event. Long story short ... the Celebration of Life to honor my father was wonderful ... held a pouring down rainy day at the Glen Helen auditorium, with a standing room only crowd of family and 'Springers', it was truly a testament to the amazing man my father was, who died one month shy of his 96th birthday. The crown jewel of the weekend, which happen to be over the Mother's Day weekend, was the Glen House Inn. We found the Inn on the internet and rented the entire Inn for the weekend. The property proved to be stunning ... the photos on the internet, although nice, cannot do it justice. Marina, the Innkeeper, was wonderful in helping us plan our time together as a family of 35 members, who were coming from all over the country. The house became 'Byron's home' ... Byron's children (the 'sibs' ... the youngest 50+ :)) and their spouses stayed at the Inn, and the next generation of 20+ family members (Bryon's grandchildren and great-grandchildren) stayed at another local motel, all of which we rented. What happened at the Glen House Inn was magical. The next generation, some whom had never met before, joined the sibs at the Glen House Inn for meal events and socializing and just 'hanging out together.' Ten young 2nd cousins met and played together for the first time. Family members reminisced about Byron, their father and grandfather, and their own lives. It was healing. It was happy. It was fun. It was relaxing. Without exception each family member expressed how much they loved being at the Inn. The environment of the house provided wonderful spaces and gathering spots to create everything we hoped it would be. Jodi and Marina took such good care of us all. Besides the amazing style, beauty and layout of the house itself, the enchanting environment in which it sits, and the fabulous and plentiful food, there is something very, very special here.

*****  Romantic weekend..

Review by Mr Joe and Miss Joey on 4/6/14 11:28 AM

I am shocked if anyone could complain about this B&B.; It is so gorgeous with the giant doors, expensive linens and even the plates were handcrafted pottery from a local artist. There is art of every kind gracing the rooms. It is right next to a giant hiking area and one basically has free run of the place to sit and read, have a glass of wine or snuggle in front of a fire. The food is top notch and a big breakfast. The cost was no more then a local hotel but ten times better. I will return again and again. The inn keeper was great we felt like we were friends and took care of our every need. Even after I sprang end my ankle we rushed back so we could enjoy some more time there. Can't wait to return in the warmer season.

***** B&B; Heaven!..

My husband and I recently booked Glen House Inn for one night. It was fabulous! I am kind of picky about bed and breakfasts and this one lived up to my high expectations! :) The innkeeper was friendly and knowledgable--from directions and restaurant recommendations, to the history of the Inn and its artwork, and beyond. The Inn itself is gorgeous! We would most definitely return to Glenn House Inn!

***** Glen House Inn..

Review by Happy customers on 3/25/14 10:47 AM

We went for an impromptu getaway to Yellow Springs and stayed at the Glen House Inn for two nights. Great service, great location and a quiet, beautiful space. Very well kept residence, clean and sharp. It had the grooming of a fancy hotel but felt like home, like we lived there. Breakfast was more than we expected and very good. Worth going back for sure.

More Background On GlenHouseInn.com

The former Glen House Inn in Yellow Springs, Ohio occupied a special place within the Midwest’s independent hospitality scene. Combining luxury accommodations, artistic sensibilities, nature-focused tourism, and the distinctive cultural atmosphere of Yellow Springs, the inn became known as far more than a standard bed-and-breakfast. During its years of operation, the property attracted hikers, cyclists, artists, university visitors, wedding parties, wellness travelers, and guests seeking a secluded retreat that felt simultaneously elegant and deeply personal.

Although the inn has permanently closed, memories of Glen House Inn continue to circulate through travel reviews, local discussions, archived web pages, and the experiences of guests who considered it one of Ohio’s most unique lodging destinations.

Yellow Springs: A Community That Shaped the Inn’s Identity

The story of Glen House Inn cannot be separated from the identity of Yellow Springs itself. Located in southwestern Ohio between Dayton, Columbus, and Cincinnati, Yellow Springs has long stood apart from neighboring communities because of its artistic culture, environmental consciousness, progressive politics, and independent spirit.

The village developed a national reputation as an oasis for artists, intellectuals, musicians, educators, and outdoor enthusiasts. Antioch College played a major role in shaping this reputation, helping cultivate an atmosphere centered around creativity, activism, alternative lifestyles, and appreciation for the arts.

Visitors came to Yellow Springs not only for restaurants and shops, but also for hiking trails, independent galleries, live music, wellness retreats, cycling routes, and community events. Unlike many small Midwestern towns, Yellow Springs intentionally embraced individuality and unconventional aesthetics.

Glen House Inn fit naturally within this environment. Rather than adopting a rustic farmhouse or country-cottage identity common among rural inns, the property leaned into a more international and artistic atmosphere. Guests repeatedly described the inn as feeling like a European villa hidden within the Ohio countryside.

Its location near Glen Helen Nature Preserve and John Bryan State Park gave visitors easy access to some of Ohio’s best hiking and outdoor recreation while still being minutes from downtown Yellow Springs.

Location and Natural Setting

The inn was located on Glen Road just outside the village center, surrounded by woods, trails, and natural landscapes. This positioning proved central to its appeal.

Guests often commented on the peacefulness of the setting. Deer were regularly spotted nearby, and many visitors described the property as quiet, restorative, and ideal for escaping urban stress. The estate’s relationship to the surrounding landscape became one of its defining characteristics.

Nearby attractions included:

  • Glen Helen Nature Preserve
  • John Bryan State Park
  • Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve
  • Little Miami Scenic Bike Trail
  • Antioch College
  • Downtown Yellow Springs
  • Springfield Museum of Art
  • National Museum of the United States Air Force

The location also appealed strongly to cyclists. The Little Miami Scenic Trail, one of Ohio’s major recreational bike routes, attracted travelers who frequently sought overnight accommodations in the Yellow Springs area.

Many reviews referenced hiking excursions, bicycle trips, and nature-focused vacations that centered around staying at Glen House Inn.

Architecture and European Influences

One of the most memorable aspects of Glen House Inn was its architecture. The property was repeatedly described by guests as Mediterranean-inspired, Italianate, or European in character.

The villa-style structure featured:

  • Extremely high ceilings
  • Large arched doors
  • Tall windows
  • Tiled fireplaces
  • Imported decorative elements
  • Old World-inspired architectural details
  • Expansive gathering spaces
  • Outdoor terraces
  • A heated seasonal lap pool
  • Artistic interior design throughout the house

Several reviewers specifically mentioned reclaimed French doors, imported fountains, ceramic pieces, and globally inspired décor. The property’s scale and visual ambition stood out dramatically compared with traditional Midwest bed-and-breakfast properties.

Guests often described arriving at the house and feeling surprised that such an elaborate and art-filled property existed in rural Ohio.

The architecture intentionally blurred the line between private estate, art gallery, and luxury inn.

Art as a Central Theme

Art was deeply integrated into the Glen House experience. Rather than simply decorating walls with generic hotel artwork, the property emphasized original paintings, sculpture, photography, handcrafted furnishings, and curated visual design.

Reviews frequently described the inn as:

  • “Art-filled”
  • “A gallery”
  • “A place for art lovers”
  • “An art house”
  • “A European estate”

Guests noted that nearly every room featured original artwork and thoughtfully selected decorative pieces. Some visitors spent significant time simply exploring the house itself.

The artistic atmosphere aligned naturally with Yellow Springs’ broader cultural identity. Travelers interested in galleries, independent artists, music, and creative communities often found Glen House Inn especially appealing.

Some accounts also referenced family connections to artists whose work appeared throughout the home, contributing to the sense that the inn represented a deeply personal creative project rather than a purely commercial lodging business.

Guest Rooms and Accommodations

The inn offered a relatively small number of guest rooms, which helped maintain an intimate atmosphere. Rooms featured names such as:

  • Violet Room
  • Terra Cotta Room
  • Linen Room
  • Sunflower Library Room
  • Patina Room

Guests commonly praised:

  • Comfortable beds
  • Luxurious linens
  • Spacious layouts
  • Fireplaces
  • Quiet surroundings
  • Elegant furnishings
  • High ceilings
  • Large windows
  • Artistic décor

Many rooms featured en suite bathrooms, tiled fireplaces, wood floors, artisan soaps, Egyptian cotton towels, and upscale bedding. The accommodations attempted to balance rustic natural surroundings with luxury and sophistication.

Certain rooms became especially memorable among repeat visitors. The Violet Room, for example, was frequently mentioned in reviews for its comfort and atmosphere.

Some guests described the rooms as romantic getaway destinations suitable for anniversaries, honeymoons, or personal retreats.

Breakfasts and Culinary Reputation

Breakfast played a major role in the inn’s reputation. Reviews repeatedly praised the quality, presentation, and freshness of the food.

The inn emphasized:

  • Locally sourced ingredients
  • Fresh baked breads and pastries
  • Vegan-friendly options
  • Personalized meals
  • Made-to-order breakfasts
  • Special dietary accommodations

Several guests specifically highlighted vegan breakfasts prepared by the innkeepers, which aligned with Yellow Springs’ broader culture of wellness and alternative lifestyles.

Breakfast service also contributed to the social atmosphere of the inn. Many visitors described lingering conversations with innkeepers and fellow guests during morning meals.

Food reviews frequently used enthusiastic language, calling breakfasts:

  • “Amazing”
  • “Delicious”
  • “Exceptional”
  • “Off the hook”
  • “Remarkable”

For many travelers, breakfast became a memorable part of the overall Glen House experience rather than simply an included amenity.

The Innkeepers and Hospitality Style

Much of the inn’s identity revolved around its innkeepers and staff, particularly Jody and Bill, who were repeatedly praised in reviews for warmth, flexibility, and attentiveness.

Guests described them as:

  • Welcoming
  • Friendly
  • Accommodating
  • Informative
  • Relaxed
  • Helpful without being intrusive

Unlike chain hotels with standardized interactions, Glen House Inn cultivated a more personal hospitality style. Guests often spoke about conversations with the innkeepers, recommendations for local attractions, accommodations for special requests, and assistance with events or celebrations.

Wedding guests and honeymooners especially emphasized the emotional warmth of the experience.

Some reviews also mentioned the innkeepers’ ability to balance privacy with attentiveness, allowing guests to feel comfortable using common spaces without feeling monitored.

Weddings, Retreats, and Events

Beyond overnight lodging, Glen House Inn developed a reputation as an event venue.

The property hosted:

  • Intimate weddings
  • Family reunions
  • Anniversary celebrations
  • Retreats
  • Group gatherings
  • Special occasion weekends

Its architectural beauty, wooded surroundings, and spacious gathering areas made it attractive for small private events.

Several reviews described deeply emotional family experiences hosted at the inn, including reunions and memorial gatherings. Guests often emphasized that the property created an atmosphere conducive to meaningful connection and reflection.

Wedding parties frequently praised the house’s aesthetics, describing it as elegant yet intimate.

The inn’s common areas—including lounges, verandas, kitchen spaces, outdoor seating areas, and the pool deck—encouraged communal interaction while still allowing privacy.

The Pool and Outdoor Environment

The seasonal heated lap pool became one of the inn’s standout amenities.

In reviews, guests repeatedly referenced:

  • Quiet afternoons by the pool
  • Swimming after hikes
  • Relaxing in wooded surroundings
  • The serenity of the outdoor environment
  • Poolside reading and conversation

Because many nearby accommodations lacked comparable amenities, the pool helped distinguish Glen House Inn from competitors in the region.

The surrounding grounds also contributed heavily to the property’s appeal. Guests described:

  • Forest views
  • Gardens
  • Birdsong
  • Outdoor seating areas
  • Walking paths
  • Quiet nighttime skies
  • Nearby streams and woods

For many travelers, the inn functioned as a nature retreat as much as a lodging destination.

Audience and Visitor Demographics

The inn attracted a broad but culturally specific audience.

Common guest categories included:

  • Couples seeking romantic getaways
  • Antioch College visitors
  • Outdoor enthusiasts
  • Cyclists
  • Art lovers
  • Wellness travelers
  • Honeymooners
  • Urban professionals escaping city life
  • Families attending local events
  • Wedding guests

The property particularly appealed to guests looking for experiences that felt authentic, artistic, and restorative rather than commercialized.

Many visitors came from larger Ohio cities such as Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland, while others traveled from out of state.

Reviews from New York, Dallas, and other distant locations suggested that the inn’s reputation spread beyond regional tourism circles.

Press and Media Recognition

The inn received positive attention from local and regional publications, particularly for its architecture and artistic atmosphere.

Coverage often focused on:

  • The villa-style design
  • Artistic interiors
  • Relationship to nature
  • Luxury accommodations
  • European influences
  • Integration into Yellow Springs culture

One publication famously described the inn as resembling “a carefully crafted, perfectly metered sonnet,” emphasizing its poetic atmosphere and retreat-like qualities.

Writers frequently highlighted the contrast between the rural Ohio setting and the unexpectedly sophisticated design of the property.

Criticism and Operational Challenges

Although the majority of reviews were highly positive, not all guest experiences were flawless.

Some criticisms included:

  • Occasional maintenance issues
  • Thin walls or noise transfer
  • Water pressure problems
  • Inconsistent housekeeping expectations
  • Lack of showers in certain rooms
  • Organizational inconsistencies
  • Temperature control issues

A few guests also expressed frustration regarding customer service or amenities not matching expectations.

These critiques reflected some of the operational realities faced by independent boutique inns, especially those attempting to maintain a highly personalized atmosphere rather than a rigidly standardized hotel model.

Still, even many mixed reviews acknowledged the property’s architectural beauty and distinctive character.

Why the Inn Became Memorable

What ultimately made Glen House Inn stand out was the emotional response it generated among guests.

Many reviews described feelings of:

  • Rejuvenation
  • Escape
  • Creativity
  • Peacefulness
  • Inspiration
  • Romance
  • Reflection

The property offered an experience that blended:

  • Nature
  • Art
  • Hospitality
  • Architecture
  • Personal connection
  • Quiet luxury

Rather than emphasizing commercial polish, the inn cultivated atmosphere and individuality.

In an era increasingly dominated by standardized hotel chains and algorithm-driven vacation rentals, Glen House Inn represented a more intimate and idiosyncratic model of hospitality.

Permanent Closure and Legacy

The eventual closure of Glen House Inn marked the end of a distinctive chapter in Yellow Springs hospitality history.

For many former guests, the closure felt significant because the inn had embodied qualities increasingly difficult to replicate:

  • Independent artistic vision
  • Personal hospitality
  • Architectural uniqueness
  • Connection to local culture
  • Nature-centered retreat experiences

The property became part of Yellow Springs lore—a place remembered not simply for accommodations, but for the feeling it created.

Even years after its operation ended, archived reviews and discussions continue to portray Glen House Inn as one of Ohio’s most unusual and memorable bed-and-breakfast destinations.

Its legacy survives through guest memories, photographs, archived travel pages, and the enduring affection many visitors still express for the experience it provided.
